Monday er, uh, Tuesday! I dozed off last night on the couch while I was working on this post. I’ve been so tired recently after having some late nights, so I think I need to make more of an effort to get myself to bed earlier!
How’d you do on your goals last week? Did you write down things you are grateful for?
I really liked taking time to think about the things I’m grateful for every day! I started out writing them down in my African journal each morning, but then I decided to change it up a little bit. One day I decided to be aware of the things that stick out to me during the day – and take photos of them instead. I loved pausing for just a few seconds here and there throughout my day and just soaking in what I was grateful for in that moment.
I shared this photo on Instagram and Facebook – I am so grateful for this bookworm in soccer jammies and crazy bedhead! I love watching his love of books grow each day. “Just one more chapter, Mom! Please?!”
I am also grateful for the time each day that I get to sit down with our littlest bookworm as he reads aloud to me. I love getting to experience the magic of Shel Silverstein and other authors through their little eyes for the first time over and over again!
And while I was contemplating other things that I was grateful for, I came across my “Gratefulness Journal” which is from Zambia. I got it last fall from my friend Sara who is living in Zambia and has a heart for helping boys in African prisons.
Looking at my journal made me so grateful for friendship. I have so many wonderful friends devoting their lives to helping others…
Sara is in Zambia, Will is working with orphans in Ukraine, Vanessa is in Peru, Crystal is working with a village in South Africa, Katie started a work in Haiti, Jennifer is working in my hometown, Alysha is encouraging broken hearts after a devastating loss, and there are so many others… I am inspired and challenged by these people every day just by having them in my life – for which I am beyond grateful!
I loved this new way of practicing gratitude so much that I want to do it again!
I’m curious – as I’ve been thinking about all the things that have kept me from taking better care of myself, I’m wondering – What things are keeping you from taking a little time for you? Kids? Work? Crazy schedule? Are you like me and forgot how to take care of yourself?
One of the hardest parts of taking a little time for myself has always been coming up with ideas for how to take care of me. That’s why I’ve come up with a list of 101 FREE (or nearly free) Ways to Take a Little Time for US! And I’d be thrilled to send it to you! I’ll keep sharing even more of my progress on Facebook and Instagram this week with the hashtag #takealittletime, and I’d love it if you joined me. It would be way more fun with you! Let’s find a second to actually take a minute, SIT DOWN today, and just breathe. And don’t forget to write out three things you are grateful for today! You can even share them here in the comments or tag me in your photos! Let’s put our health, our hearts, and our heads back on the to-do list – and let’s start taking better care of ourselves today!
Did anyone else have a rough week? I won't go into all the ugly details, but I sure felt...
