Week #17 ~ A Happier, Healthier You (Airport Edition)

Hey there! I promise that I haven’t forgotten that I have a blog! I know that I’m late, but I wanted to give you a little update on what we’ve been up to – and share my goals for this next week. I do so much better with y’all as accountability partners. 😉

Unfortunately, I don’t have many pictures to share. These last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of stomach flu, family getaway, beginning of summer, and preparing for deployment. I’m actually on my way to see my Beloved off as I write to you. I will kiss him goodbye very early tomorrow morning, drive four hours to attend a family funeral, and then make the drive back home. If you happen to think of it, would you please send thoughts and prayers our way? We have had so many other things pop up this week. Saying goodbye is so hard…

We have had such a wonderful time together, these last few days together. Joe and I surprised the boys with a trip to Kansas City over Memorial weekend. We took them on their first roller coasters at Worlds of Fun, made some dreams come true at Legoland, visited Union Station, and celebrated our youngest son’s birthday a little early so Joe could be there, too. I tried so hard to lean into the joy of having him with us instead of focusing on the pain of him leaving, and I think that is helping to get this time apart off to a good and healthy start.

We spent this past weekend tackling last-minute projects around the house and spending time together. Among other things, Joe installed a “climbing wall” in Aiden’s room. It has already been a huge hit, and I can’t wait to tackle the rest of his room during deployment projects!

It was so hard to watch him say goodbye to the boys on Sunday – but as soon as he left, they wanted to go buy cookie ingredients for the weekly care packages that we send while he’s away. It was so sweet to watch them pick out oatmeal, raisins, and gingerbread for his first few batches! I couldn’t help but smile through the few tears that managed to escape!

The Past Weeks’ Goals ~

  • Drink enough sea salt water and coconut water to stay hydratedI’ve been doing pretty okay at this! I’m not drinking coconut water every day, but usually every other day. So far, my back still feels great!
  • Clean my makeup brushesI followed the advice that several of you gave me – baby shampoo! It worked great! Cheap and easy, too. How often do you wash your makeup brushes?
  • Exercise at least 4 times this weekI haven’t been to the gym since our homeschool PE class ended, but the boys and I are keeping busy with running, sports in our yard, and fitness videos. I’m really enjoying (nearly dying) the Anna Kaiser Technique videos on YouTube. They are only 10 minutes long, but they pack a punch in a “hurts so good” kind of way!
  • Be up at 0530 to enjoy quiet time before the day gets crazy! Getting over the stomach flu and traveling with our crew didn’t mesh well with my plan to get up extra early, but I’ll get back on track.
  • Eat a good breakfast each morning. I have been eating healthy breakfasts most mornings – but I have missed a few. 
  • Devote more time to the new blog project.
  • Continue to prepare for my Beloved’s deployment – making sure he has all he needs, prepping the house, living in the moment, and treasuring every last minute with him before he leaves.
  • Care for my hands and polish my nails. I managed to take care of my nails again last night. My toes are a silvery hue, and I used OPI’s Barre My Soul (almost clear) on my fingers.
  • Do at least two of the things on my list of activities that I enjoyed as a child – and still enjoyI have been playing our new piano every chance I get. It’s so nice to steal a few minutes here and there. Our boys have shown interest in playing the piano since the baby grand joined our family, so I have been teaching them a few of the basics. Let’s just say that there’s a lot of “Heart & Soul” being played around our house! 
  • Curl up in bed or on the Story chair with a good book or my Beloved by 2200 each night. I’ve missed this a few nights, but still doing better than I had been before I challenged myself to start going to bed earlier!

This Week’s Goals ~

  • Drink enough water, sea salt water, and coconut water to stay hydrated.
  • Switch to using coconut oil as my facial moisturizer twice each day.
  • Eat a good breakfast each morning.
  • Soak up girl time with wonderful friends this weekend.
  • Curl up in bed or on the Story Chair with a good book  by 2200 most nights.
  • Exercise three times this week.
  • Car for my hands, feet, and nails.
  • Make a list of the deployment projects that I hope to tackle while my Beloved is gone, and work on at least one.
  • Be up by 0600 to enjoy quiet time before the day gets crazy.
  • Make an appointment to see my counselor.

  • So sweet that your boys are so excited to pick up ingredients for the weekly care packages. So touching. Not that I should stereotype boys, but it’s nice to hear that boys are just as sensitive as us girls. As for makeup brushes, I haven’t washed them in years. Gross, I know. I should do that tonight!

  • Sending you strength during this difficult time! I need to remember to take time to take care of myself, too, during my busy summer of moving, my husband starting a new job, my family starting to go to a new church, etc.
    (And yeah — just like Lisa, I almost never wash my make-up brushes. Ewwww!)

  • Thinking of you this week! The anticipation was always really difficult before a deployment, so getting away with your family was such a good idea. Hang in there! It’s all counting down from here!
    Oh, and me three on the almost never washing my makeup brushes! Yikes. I really need to do that!
