Week #13 ~ A Happier, Healthier You

A Happier Healthier You - justoneoftheboys.com   I’m so sorry that I am a day late with my list of goals! I spent the weekend (and yesterday) out of town with my Beloved. We had a lovely time together – watching movies, walking, talking, and eating yummy food. He grills the world’s best steak!

Anyway, I had a fascinating appointment with a doctor that I was sent to about my back last week. He manipulated (crunched) my back, and it already felt worlds better! He also had some insight to what might be causing all of my painful back spasms…

Get this…

I might be drinking too much water!

Drink enough water!

He said that I may be flushing the potassium that I need right out of my system by drinking too much water every day. He gave me a plan to get the needed salt and sugar back in my diet – less water, more Gatorade and salt. I’m supposed to cut my water intake in half, and drink the other 32 ounces of fluid from Gatorade. I’m also supposed to eat a handful of nuts, saltines, chips…something salty.

I’m going to make these changes, keep doing my stretches, using the foam roller, and my Memory Foam pillow – and hopefully the spasms will be gone!

Last Week’s Goals ~

  • Drink at least 64 oz. of water each day. I did this every day through Friday, when I went to see my doctor.
  • Take my vitamins every morningCheck! Still taking my Shaklee vitamins!

  • Sign up to take an improv class this summer. Oh no! I forgot to sign up… I’ll do it first thing this week.
  • See the doctor about my back.

That’s crazy — too much water? Who would have thought! I know I don’t fall into that category. I drink so much coffee that it’s always in the back of my mind to drink more water to compensate! I’ve even had the kids tell me that my pee is too yellow so that means I’m not drinking enough! Haha — they’re too smart.

So glad you had a nice weekend! We had company all day on Saturday and Sunday, and it felt so nice to be spontaneous and invite people to stay and eat hot dogs over an outdoor fire, and watermelon, and baked beans… Mmm — summer is coming!

Kids are sure smart like that! 🙂 It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend – love roasting dinner over the fire, watermelon, and spending time with friends! Have a great week!

  • Hmm… too much water, eh? I drink a TON of water and hardly any salty things. I probably need to do a little better making sure my electrolytes are in balance. I have almost graduated from physical therapy, so I need to sit down and make a little workout plan for myself to follow to keep making progress on my abs.

    • ginger says:

It was a surprise to me, too, Sarah! Yay for being almost finished with PT! My abs and arms are my most neglected areas right now – I need to be better about working on them, and not just my legs! What do you do for your abs?

  • Tammy says:

About a year ago I read that you really don’t need to focus on ounces of water, but that if your “output” is clear – or near clear – you are hydrated. The article I read said that everyone is different. That took the pressure off of me to have to keep track and has helped me keep drinking all that I need.
