I’m so excited to be back with you this week! How are you doing? Are you finding little ways to take care of yourself? To challenge yourself?
I shared with you last week how taking it easy on myself was huge in helping my back to get better. This week I want to let you in on a little secret – It’s my birthday. I had a wonderful time this weekend loving on my family, and being loved on in return. We kicked off the weekend by meeting up with friends at a local botanical garden. We had such a great time strolling in the sunshine, chatting, and playing with friends!
I spent most of Saturday in the kitchen, making carnitas for tacos, and my first attempt at a Pavlova for my birthday dessert. Normally, I’m not a big fan of cooking. I enjoy eating good food, so I put up with the cooking – but it was so enjoyable to spend the time making something that I actually wanted to make!
Setting the table for Taco Night ~
My (cracked) first attempt at this delicious meringue dessert from New Zealand, it is topped with a cream cheese whipped cream, kiwi fruits, and berries. Can’t wait to make another!
I had such a wonderful weekend with all of my guys! My Beloved has more pre-deployment responsibilities going on today, so he’s not able to be with us, but he spoiled me over the weekend! He gave me a beautiful potted orchid plant (my favorite!), a gift card to a fabulous consignment/boutique store, and very special surprise! I still can’t believe it myself, and I’m excited to show it to you when it’s delivered!!! I hope that you’ll stay tuned!
I know that this sounds like a broken record, but I really want to take better care of myself this year. It’s time to put caring for myself on the to-do list, and I know that I’ll be a better wife, mother, and friend because of it! I can already see the glimmer of hope!
To wonderful coming year!
But I wanted to show you my birthday present from my dad – Honey, by Marc Jacobs. I love this perfume! It’s not too sweet, not too floral, not to spicy – just right! It wasn’t hard to remember to spritz on a little each day.
Last week I wrote out a list of some of the things that I enjoyed doing as a child. The boys and I started putting together a puzzle. I have always loved working on jigsaw puzzles, but I rarely set aside the time to work on them anymore. It’s relaxing, challenging, and so much fun!
I also played the piano, went running, listened to Pandora, and revisited an old literary friend – Anne of Green Gables. I’m really enjoying connecting with the old me – and rediscovering my old loves.
I would love to keep in touch this week as we work together to take better care of ourselves! You can find me on Facebook and Instagram, and don’t forget to check out our Pinterest group board ~ Taking Care of Ourselves!
