Week #11 ~ A Healthier, Happier You

Hey, Y’all! How was your week? Did you find a way to take care of yourself? Did you take a nap? Go out to eat with girlfriends? Curl up with a book?

I had to take it easy over the last couple of weeks as my back rested from the muscle spasm. I kept my workouts short, asked for help, and spent much of our school days on my tummy, (the only position where my back doesn’t hurt). I wanted to feel great in time for the Air Force Ball!

Week #11 ~ A Happier, Healthier You

I’m one of those girls that often plans my outfits based on the shoes that I want to wear – and I couldn’t imagine attending the Ball with my Beloved in anything but my blue wedding shoes! I take every special opportunity to wear my Manolo Blahnik beauties!

I’m not a fluffy ball gown kind of gal, so I tried to find a sleek silhouette without many rhinestones or sequins. I enjoy looking at sparkle, but wearing it just wouldn’t feel like me. When I saw this little number from ModCloth.com, I knew that I was on the right trail.

My friend Marsha offered to let me borrow some of her Silpada jewelry for the ball. I picked out some of her amazing pearl and mixed metal things, and they were the perfect accessories for that night. Thank you so much for helping me out, Marsha!

My Beloved even had my rings cleaned for the occasion. That’s the kind of sparkle that I love!

The most touching part of the night was when they honored the POW/MIA table, where we remembered those that could not be there with us. The moment was so poignant and full of emotion – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. My heart aches for the families of those who are missing their loved ones, and I love that they were honored at the celebration as well.

I had a wonderful time getting dressed up with my Beloved for the Air Force Ball. The toasts, the awards, the speeches…It was a fascinating evening, and I learned so much about my husband’s work family and the history of the Wing.

I don’t often feel like a military wife – maybe that’s because of our unique circumstances. When the guest speaker spoke of the appreciation he has for the military spouses who do the duty of both mom and dad, support their loved one while they are away, and hold the family together all on their own…well, there were more tears. Knowing that my Beloved appreciates me, it’s one of the most wonderful feelings in the whole world,  but it also helped to hear it again last night. It was exactly what this girl needed to hear, especially being so close to our next deployment.

I am so glad that I took it easy on myself last week! It’s easy for me to feel guilty when I can’t be Supermom, but I need to let myself off the hook more often. I wonder if you need to show yourself a little grace once in a while, too? I promise – you really will be better for it!

Last Week’s Goals ~

  • Drink at least 64oz. of water each day. I did it six days this week! I feel like I’m finally getting into a routine with drinking enough water! 
  • Take my new vitamins each morning. My friend Erin gave a month of Shaklee vitamins to try. I’ve heard wonderful things about these women’s vitamins, and I’m excited to try themI have been taking my vitamins, and my energy has been great! 
  • Write Chapter 11 of Our Story. I began writing the next chapter in Our Story, but it wasn’t quite ready to publish last week. 
  • Exercise three times this weekI exercised twice at the gym and went on two runs. I think my running buddy missed me while I was recovering from hip surgery!

  • Care for my hands  – push back cuticles, file nails, remember to use lotion, and polish my nails before the military ball this weekend!
  • Make an follow-up appointment with my doctor about my backI saw my doctor this week, so we’ll keep trying to figure out why my back has been giving me trouble!
  • Use my new foam roller to help ease my back pain

  • Make a list of some of the things or activities that I’ve always wanted to try – clear back to when I was a little girl.

Make a list of what you enjoyed when you were a child

  • Turn off all screens at 10pm this week. This was the hardest goal for me so far! I’m going to reevaluate how I spend my time late in the evening and see if I can come up with a better plan for myself.
  • Be curled up in bed or on the Story Chair by 2200 this week – except for this weekend. I was up late one evening during the week, but I was in bed at 10PM the other nights. We were even home from the Air Force Ball by 11PM! My Beloved knows that I turn into a sleeping pumpkin by midnight. 

 

This Week’s Goals ~

  • Drink at least 64oz. of water each day.
  • Continue to take my vitamins every morning.
  • Spritz on a little perfume to feel and smell pretty.
  • Use the foam roller on my back.
  • Make my next doctor’s appointment for my back.
  • Care for my hands and nails.
  • Exercise at least 3 times this week.
  • Keep writing Chapter 11 of Our Story to share on the blog.
  • Do at least two of the activities on the list of things that I used to enjoy as a child.
  • Curl up with a book in bed or on the Story Chair by 2200 each night.

  • The ball sounds like so much fun! It’s a good thing you babied your back all week so you could enjoy your night out. I have been slowly working on getting my nails in better shape… I think my next step is to try cuticle remover. I heard it works really well to dissolve all the dry stuff (instead of cutting them) so they don’t get even more raggedy. I have also been doing my PT exercises (I’ll post on that soon) and I need to figure out what other exercise I can still do without aggravating my injury. Have a great week!

      I am so glad that I took it easy last week – it really showed me that sometimes I do need to baby myself! I am enjoying the cuticle remover – it works in 15 seconds and doesn’t hurt! 🙂 Good luck with your PT – hope you recover soon!
