Week #5 ~ A Healthier, Happier You

A Happier Healthier You - justoneoftheboys.com

One of the goals that I focused on last week was to clean out my closet. I love how much better I feel when my things are organized and uncluttered! It had been a while since I had last been through my closet, and it was starting to drive me nuts! I couldn’t put it off any longer!

Before...Too Much Stuff!

I pulled out all of my scarves. My Beloved brought home several of them from deployments in Afghanistan, and there are others that I have from Russia. I would never get rid of my keepsakes, but I did find several of them to take out of rotation. I still have a large collection, but they are pared down to ones that I really love.

I’m still looking for way to store them. It’s the very last piece to my closet organization goal. Do you have any suggestions? I’ve been looking at Pinterest for hints – but I would love hear your ideas! Do you have any practical solutions for keeping your scarves organized and handy to wear?

During...

I come by my love of shoes naturally. My grandmother had closets full of beautiful shoes. I used to peek inside their boxes and daydream of having such pretty shoes when I grew up. I had a few pairs that were very worn out. I had some heels that I hadn’t worn in almost two years – since I first hurt my hip. It was time to let go!

Too many shoes?

To keep or not to keep? That is the question. I went through each pair and decided whether or not to keep, donate, or throw away… Can you guess what I did with this pair?

I am thrilled with my results! I have more room, less clutter, and now I have a better idea of what clothes I should look for when I go bargain hunting! My head feels clearer, the clothes were donated to a good cause, and I can finally breathe an uncluttered sigh of relief when I get dressed each day. Thank you so much for going through this with me!

A Happier Healthier You ~ Week #5

My Goals from Last Week ~

  •  Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. I still missed one day this week. Instead of beating myself up about it (my usual reaction), I think I’ll be happy that I’m doing so much better drinking more water than I was when I started this challenge! I carry my water bottle around with me everywhere, but I still like to curl up with a cup of tea, a snuggly kiddo, and a good book!

15

  • Exercise 4 times this week – twice at the gym, and twice at homeThese early morning Pilates 100s are killing me!

14

  • Spritz on a little perfume to smell and feel nice.

7

  • Finish cleaning out my closet. Now I just have to find a way to store my collection of scarves.
  • Make a playlist of our favorite family “dance party” songs and play it when we need a little boost in our spirits. Cupid Shuffle, Happy, Smooth, and Jailhouse Rock all make their appearance on our new little playlist. Let’s boogie!
  • Remember to take my vitamins every morning.
  • File and polish my nails. Ooops! I finally removed my old polish today.
  • Curl up with a book (or my Beloved) in bed by 2230 each evening. (To see what I’m reading, I’d love to connect with you on GoodReads!)
  • Play the piano three times this week. Still only twice this week. Bummer!
  • Actually get dressed in real clothes (not rely on Jayhawk sweats) this week. I need to save the KU gear for game dayI was able to do accomplish this goal last week. Even when I wanted to crawl into my sweats this past weekend, I decided to put on my favorite outfit instead. I loved getting to share my outfits with you last week, and the accountability to keep getting dressed. I enjoyed the What I’m Wearing and Get Your Pretty On link ups so much that I’m thinking about doing it again!

My Goals for This Week ~

  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day.
  • Exercise 4 times this week.
  • Get dressed in real clothes. It’ll be difficult to crawl out of my sweats with the bitterly cold weather we’re having, but I’m going to do it!
  • Write a note to a friend.
  • Tackle school paperwork and progress reports. This is the chore that I’ve been dreading!
  • Pluck my eyebrows. Ouch. My eyes are watering just thinking about it!
  • Take my vitamins every morning.
  • Use the pretty plates and glasses.
  • Curl up with a book on the Story Chair or in bed by 2200. I’m pushing my bedtime up by 30 minutes – so let’s see how that goes.
  • File and polish my nails.

I am overwhelmed by the support that y’all have given me! I LOVE hearing about how you are joining me in taking better care of yourselves! We can’t continue to put ourselves on the back burner. I used to think that it would be selfish to take a little time for myself – I’m a busy wife and mother. “I don’t have time to take care of myself.” That’s what I used to say. I’m finding out by intentionally making this list every week, and sharing it with you, that I need to make the time for myself. It’s when I’m rested, hydrated, and feeling good about myself that I can actually be a better wife, mother, and friend. Everyone wins when I take just a little time for me…and I promise that it will be the same for you.

I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing your goals and stories with us? I have been thinking about ways that we can support and encourage each other as care for ourselves like we care for those that we love around us. Would anyone be interested in linking up posts on how you’re tackling your personal goals? If you’re not a blogger, would anyone be interested in sharing comments, pictures, or stories? Y’all have been such an inspiration to me – and I would love it if we could continue to inspire and encourage each other!

I can’t wait to get started on my list – and I am excited to hear how you are taking care of yourselves this week! You can find me on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. I love to hear how you are doing, friends!

Let’s take better care of ourselves this week – together!

Love,

Ginger

  • Do not be fooled by those Pinterest pictures of shower curtain rings across a hanger for organizing scarves… they all slide to one side and it really doesn’t work very well. What I ended up doing instead was hooking all the rings into a chain, putting the top one over the top of a hanger (or a hook in your closet would work too) and threading a scarf through every other ring or so. I like that it’s fairly compact and if you need to see all your scarves you can pull it out to the side and get a nice view of it.
My ongoing self-care is to put lotion on my hands (constantly) to combat this dry weather. And my new task this month is to carve out some time (2-3 hr chunk) to myself at least once a week.

That is such valuable info about scarf organization, Sarah! I’m so glad to know that they don’t work. I like your idea of a chain…Hmmm…off to brainstorm a bit. 🙂

And YAY! So glad that you’re continuing to take a little time for yourself! 🙂

I really am so glad that I found your blog. I was in some serious need of motivation. This winter has been brutal and its been a real downer for my mood. I’ve been wanting to lose some weight and spend more time on myself but its just been hard getting in the swing of things again. I’m a sahm so its really easy to fall into the pj everyday routine especially when its cold. Anyway I read all of these posts on happier healthier us and they reallly motivated me to start my own to do list this week! Thank you!

Hi there! I am so happy that you stopped by! Winter is a rough time for me, too. I am so happy that we’re starting to get tiny hints of spring here and there! I’m a SAHM as well – so I know the feeling of wanting to stay in my warm fleece jammies, as well. I am so happy that you are starting your own list – and I hope that you’ll let me know how it goes! 🙂

Your “story chair” is lovely. And those teal Converse. I hope you kept them 🙂 We store scarves/gloves/stocking hats in an over-the-door shoe holder (one that has clear pockets.) You’d obviously need a free door for that though 🙂

    • ginger says:

Thank you, Shana! I love our Story Chair. I still read to my little guys on it, but now that they’re not so little we can’t all snuggle in at the same time. 🙂 I like your idea of the shoe holder. I’ll have to check those out!

  • You had a great week, I love that you purged your closet and reorganized it. That is sooo on my to do list for every closet in our house! I’m on Goodreads too so I will come find you. I blog about books, and my goals so hope you will stop by and link up your posts with me. I have 3 linkies going on right now (though I found you at MSM). My Small Victories Sunday linky is my weekly reading/cooking/goals recap and goals for the next week, you can link up 3 posts till Saturday. http://momssmallvictories.com/small-victories-sunday-linky-9-one-partied-like-superheroes/ Our goals linky is for monthly goals and achievements that a group of bloggers were inspired to do after reading Say Goodbye to Survival Mode…http://momssmallvictories.com/march-2014-personal-goals-2014goals/ and a Throwback Thursday linky which just went live to get a second glance and new attention for old posts that are linked up. http://momssmallvictories.com/throwback-thursday-linkup-1-welcome/
